Is Tourism Back Full Swing to Mazatlán?

Mazatlán began its official lock down around April 21, 2020 in conjunction with the rest of the country. Yet many of the locals in town had already begun to stay indoors and begin their quarantine as early as March 21. Tourism, a vital artery to Mazatlán’s economy, shut down limiting an essential stream of income to local businesses, restaurants and hotels. The impact trickled down to all employees across every industry.

While it is not uniquely a “Mazatlán” issue, but rather a world-wide issue, small businesses are struggling to stay afloat or have simply ceased to exist. And yet, COVID-19 doesn’t plan on going anywhere, anytime soon.

Despite concerns of a second outbreak, we’re still not over the first outbreak. Social distancing rules should be respected and enforced if we are ever to stay strong and willing to break free from the shackles that COVID-19 has fastened upon us. Tourism is essential to many cities across all countries and it will only take effective cooperation to allow us to continue to live in these uncertain times.

July, August and September each has seen a surge of visitors coming mostly from across Mexico with a sprinkle of international visitors frequenting the beaches and restaurants. With safety protocols and social distancing rules in place, we are starting to see life bounce back into this beautiful coastal city.

Here’s to hoping tourism can come back coursing through the veins of Mazatlán’s streets as well as in every corner of the world. Welcome to the Home of Travels visitors. Be safe and respectful out there.
