Why Flip Homes in Mazatlan?

Our love for Mazatlán, Mexico in particular comes from a personal connection to the place. This is where my mother, grandmother and grandfather were all born. There is a deeply rooted history of the Valades family that is personal and emotional for me. And since Socrates’ parents are both from the state of Guanajuato, it made Mexico an easy place to kick off our career change.

The current environment between the United States and Mexico has also made us want to explore life south of the border. Mexico in general can be more affordable for someone who saved up money in the US. As of this article, the Peso to Dollar conversion was $19.01 Mexican Pesos to $1.00 US Dollar. So we were able to take some risks here and there knowing that we weren’t dropping tens of thousands of dollars that we would have encountered trying to make this career change in NYC.

Now let’s get down to why Mazatlán. Besides having an emotional connection to the place, it really is a city filled with so much unique culture, rich history, delicious gastronomy and friendly community members. As the only coastal city in Mexico that offers up: a fantastic roster of theatrical events at the renowned Angela Peralta Theater, a soon-to-be world class aquarium, 21 kilometers of accessible coastline and unforgettable cuisine, why would we consider flipping houses anywhere else?

Mazatlán’s Historic Center is continuing to expand and become restored one property at a time. We wanted to dive in and join the renaissance growth. However, many of the abandoned homes have issues with deeds, titles and ownerships thus making them challenging to acquire and renovate. We’ll cover our challenges of working on deeds and titles here in Mexico as a foreigner and even as a Mexican citizen.

We’re hoping that you enjoy our journey as we try something new and hopefully learn a thing or two along the way!
